Dorothy Boersma, M.D.
Dr. Boersma is a 1978 graduate of Indiana University School of Medicine and completed a pediatric internship at Children’s Memorial in Dallas, Texas. She then raised her family and practiced part-time over the years in general medicine with her husband while living in Texas, Arkansas, Japan, Illinois and Indiana. She has been in practice in Rushville since 1990 and has worked full-time at Family Health since 2004. She finished a Master’s degree in Public Health at Indiana University School of Medicine in 2007 and is eligible to take the Public Health Board Certification exam this fall. She has 5 children and has been married for 33 years to Richard Boersma, MD. Her interests include music, reading, gardening, quilting and her lovely granddaughter.
Richard Boersma, M.D.

Richard Boersma, MD, graduated from Purdue University with a BS in biochemistry in 1974 and finished his MD at Indiana University in 1978. He did his Family Practice Residency at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, and has maintained his board certification in family practice since 1981. He retired as a Colonel in the Air Force Reserve in 2004 after having served in Texas, Arkansas, and Japan and being called to active duty during the Gulf War, Enduring Freedom (Bosnia), and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He enjoys farming, woodworking, photography and his grand-daughter! He has five children and has been married to Dorothy for 33 years.
Nicole Boersma, M.D.

Dr. Nykki Boersma graduated from Manchester College in 2001 and completed her medical school at Indiana University in 2005. She completed her residency in family medicine at Memorial Hospital of South Bend and obtained her board certification in family medicine in 2009. Following residency, she completed a one-year fellowship in primary care obstetrics including training in C-sections. She has privileges to deliver babies at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.
She has been married since 2001 and has one daughter. She enjoys photography, reading, and computers.

Shannan McCane, LCSW

Shannan earned a BA in psychology from Purdue University in 1997 and a Masters of clinical social work from Indiana University in 2004. She is a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Indiana and a member of the National Health Service Corps. She has provided behavioral health and mental health services in inpatient, outpatient, and home-based settings for over seven years and enjoys working with clients of all ages.
Bruce Benniger, M.D.

Gayle Backmeyer, CNM

Gayle Backmeyer graduated from Marion County General Hospital with her R.N., Ball State University, Indiana University, and Frontier School of Midwifery. She has been a practicing nurse practitioner since 1990 and a nurse midwife since 1997.
Gayle delivered babies for Family Health Services until January 2007 and now cares for women, including pregnant women. Her specialty includes young teens and women through the life span. She currently is working two days a week in our clinic.
She is married and has two children and three grandchildren.
Lori Klopfenstein, FNP

Lori graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University with a Master's in Nursing as a Family Nurse Practitionaer in 2006. She is married to Mark and has 5 children and 5 grandchildren.
